The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority is a Nodal Authority constituted as a statutory body in March 1999 under Section 6 of the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987. The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority Rules, 1998 and Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (Transaction of Business and other Provisions) govern the functioning of this Authority. The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority as described in the Act holds the responsibility for protection of the weaker sections and safeguarding the rights of the marginalized in the context of ‘Access to Justice for all’. Nagaland State Legal Services Authority is headed by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court as Patron-in-Chief and the Hon’ble Executive Chairman who is a Judge of the Gauhati High Court, functioning under the control of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
